Will my LEI code change?
No. The LEI code is a permanent identifier. Identifying the entity remains the same; only the Registration Agent managing the record changes.
How long does the transfer take?
The transfer process typically takes nearly 7 days. This depends on how quickly you provide confirmation to the original LEI issuer to release the code.
Is there a cost to transfer?
The transfer itself is free of charge. You typically only pay for the renewal of the LEI once it is successfully transferred to our system.
Can I transfer an expired LEI?
Yes. You can transfer a lapsed or expired LEI. Once transferred, we will process the renewal immediately to restore it to “Active” status in the database.
Do I need to contact my old LOU?
No. We initiate the request through the GLEIF network. Your old LOU will email you for confirmation, but we handle the technical steps.
